THE DARK

All which we see stems out from the invisible, from the unknown, which is in fact much vaster and defining than the seen. The dark is both from and to. The dark is potential and it is truth, it is the canvas for all the colourful paintings drawn with light. The dark is our true home.
THE DARK
On empty bits of solitary time, at home, I've been playing with the photo camera lately, trying to understand light, fiddling with shutter and aperture settings, getting both over and under exposed shots, as all amateurs do. I'm tired of chasing the cat and i mostly like to shoot people, so I've been using myself and the timer, which resulted in a ridiculous amount of head shots, totally useless for anyone without an interest in a showbiz career, but also in a clear insight:

To understand light is to understand darkness.

All which we see stems out from the invisible, from the unknown, which is in fact much vaster and defining than the seen. The dark is both from and to. The dark is potential and it is truth, it is the canvas for all the colourful paintings drawn with light. The dark is our true home.

Suffering, violence, abuse, unhappiness and misunderstanding in human relationships do not come from lack of light. Everybody feels love, everybody enjoys a sunrise. They come instead because we are scared to integrate our dark, because we cannot admit to the mirror that we too are a dangerous motherfucker waiting for an opportunity to become.

If we could say to each other:

'I love you, but in a shitty way, as I love myself first and that often creates a conflict that I not always know how to resolve. I keep trying, my dear, but I will unfortunately fail and hurt you often. I love you but my love is imperfect and will cause us both as much pain as it will cause pleasure.'

Then, a new space for forgiveness and understanding would appear. A space for responsibility and self reliance, for empathy and compassion. The uncompromising acceptance of the truth of our limitations would immediately generate awareness of the truth of our possibilities. And damn, humans are full possibilities! It so seems to me that reaching our full potential is easier when our deepest limitations and fears are acknowledged rather that denied.

So, my friend, I'd say, love your dark, understand your dark, integrate your dark, befriend your dark, transcend your dark if you're lucky and stubborn enough, but don't ignore it, don't look the other way and pretend is not there, or else you're bound to create a great deal of suffering for yourself and others.

Or so i think, I might be wrong.
You are your own master.
